Dodge It!

Dodge It! combines head tracking technology with an arcade shooting
gallery game. Players aim and shoot at targets with a Wii Remote. A pair
of wearable LEDs allows players to dodge projectiles by physically moving
their head. Special abilities such as slowing time and stopping bullets
are enabled with the Wii Remote.
This game was
created using Johnny Chung Lee’s WiiDesktopVR. WiiDesktopVR provided
the base head tracking technology. Coding and art assets were added to
allow for hit detection, projectiles, and enemies.
Informal play
sessions were held with colleagues in the Equis Lab. Participants enjoyed
the game and were surprised at the responsiveness of the head tracking
technology. Sessions held outside of the controlled lab sessions revealed
the head tracking quality is highly sensitive to lighting conditions.
This game was
created in collaboration with Eric Qiu.
